They’ve made top nationally ranked college dance teams/dance programs and companies at N.C. State University, East Carolina University, UNC-Greensboro, and Meredith College, just to name a few.

Some of her students have also received full scholarships through audition to train with top choreographers throughout the country. Competitively, Quisan has received multiple regional and national Best Choreography awards and her students have won Overall High Score awards and over 25 solo/group National and Grand National Championship Titles. As a studio owner and dance instructor, Quisan’s goal has always been to not only mold children into confident, hardworking and socially responsible adults who have a life-long love and appreciation of the arts, but to also train dancers who don’t feel intimidated just because they are from a small town. Quisan enjoys teaching her students the importance of giving back through participating in various community events, and raising awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorders in honor of her wonderful son Zion, who has Asperger’s. Quisan holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Fayetteville State University and is a member in good standing of the National Dance Educators Organization, a chapter chair of the National Honor Society of Dance Arts, and a member of More Than Just Great Dancing, Inc. that celebrates integrity and leadership of dance educators. She also has an extensive background in pageantry (See Pageant Coaching page) and enjoys judging and coaching girls for pageants to become their best selves. Tara R. Peyton-Burgess has been married to her soulmate, Reggie, for 23 years, and is the proud mom of two wonderful sons, Jared and Matthew. Tara’s love of dance began at the age of 2. During her childhood, she studied all forms of dance at local studios and in New York City and was a member of the Thelma Olaker and the Richmond Ballet. During high school, Tara helped teach and choreograph for several dance studios and made the decision to continue her dance career at Radford University where she majored in Dance and Recreation. While in college, Tara performed as a finalist in the Miss Virginia Pageant and was hired by Taft Productions as a dancer for the main stage shows “Celebration” and “Gotta Dance.” Following her career as a professional dancer, Tara went back to school and received her certification in Elementary Education and taught first and second grades for 13 years. During this time, Tara greatly missed performing and teaching dance, so she made the decision 16 years ago to open Gotta DANCE! School of Performing Arts which is located in Prince George, VA.

Tara is a member of the professional organization Dance Educators of America. She has been an Adjunct Faculty member for dance at Richard Bland College for several years. She serves as a Dance Adjudicator for the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School and for a Turn Around Arts School and is a judge for the Kings Dominion Dance Festival. Sharing her love of dance with her students and giving them as many performance opportunities, as possible, is most important to Tara. Over the past 16 years, she has taken over 100 students and many of the studio’s dance instructors to New York City to take classes at Broadway Dance Center. In recent years, tap dancing has become a favorite of Tara’s whether it’s taking class or choreographing! Tara makes several trips a year to NYC to train from top tap instructors including Germaine Salsburg, Shea Sullivan, Justin Bioccio, Crystal Chapman and Lainie Munro. Tara also takes weekly tap classes at Richmond Dance Center and attends tap workshops at Dogtown Dance Center. Tara’s tap choreography has received several overall high scores and judges’ awards at various regional dance competitions.

Tara loves the positive atmosphere Caroline Cook has created at Southeast Showdown is so excited to have been asked to teach tap at the Southeast Showdown Intensive. She cannot wait to share her love of tap with each dancer! If you happen to see the license plate TAPNYC in the parking lot, you’ll know who it belongs to!
